Stay Safe While Your Furnace Is Down

If your furnace has stopped working, here are some things you can do right now to keep your family safe and your home protected.

1

If you smell gas, leave the house

Don’t flip any switches. Get everyone out and call Enbridge at 1-866-763-5427, then call us once you’re safe outside.

2

Check your thermostat first

Make sure it’s set to heat, the temperature is up, and the batteries aren’t dead. Sometimes it’s the simplest fix.

3

Check the furnace power switch

There’s a light switch on or near your furnace. It may have been bumped off accidentally. Flip it back on.

4

Open cabinet doors under sinks

If your home is getting very cold, this helps prevent pipes from freezing along exterior walls.

5

Use a space heater safely

Don’t flip any switches. Get everyone out and call Enbridge at 1-866-763-5427, then call us once you’re safe outside.

6

Never use your oven for heat

Running a gas oven with the door open is a carbon monoxide risk. A stove or oven is not a furnace.

These are the most common emergency calls we get from Toronto homeowners. We know how to handle all of them.

Complete furnace failure

Furnace is completely dead — no lights, no fan, no response to the thermostat.

No heat output

Furnace runs but only pushes cold air. House temperature dropping fast.

Gas smell near the unit

You smell gas around the furnace area. Potentially dangerous — needs immediate attention.

Loud banging or screeching

Alarming sounds that started suddenly. Usually a mechanical failure that will get worse.

Risk of pipes freezing

“Lloyd HVAC met and exceeded my high expectations. From the office staff and owner, to the technician everybody was pleasant and helpful. My AC unit did not turn on in the spring. They were able to help provide me with the information I needed and send out a technician quickly. While the technician was here, the owner was even willing to run to the store to pick up a part for us. I highly recommend using this company.”

Answers When You Need Them Fast

Quick answers so you know what to expect.
It depends on where you are and current demand, but we prioritize emergencies above all other calls. When you phone us, we’ll give you an honest arrival estimate — not a vague four-hour window. If we can’t get there fast enough, we’ll tell you upfront so you can make the best decision for your family.
No. We never charge extra for evening or weekend service. Your furnace doesn’t care what day it is, and neither does our pricing. The rate is the same whether it’s Tuesday at 2 PM or Saturday at 10 PM.
Most emergency repairs are resolved on the first visit. In rare cases where a specific part needs to be ordered, we’ll explain the situation, give you a timeline, and help you stay warm in the meantime with temporary solutions if possible.

Call the gas company first. If you smell gas, leave the house immediately — don’t flip any switches — and call Enbridge at 1-866-763-5427. Once they’ve confirmed it’s safe, call us and we’ll come repair the furnace.

Costs depend on the issue. We’ll diagnose the problem and give you a clear quote before doing any work. You approve the cost first — there’s no surprise bill. And remember, we don’t charge extra for after-hours calls.
