Keep Yourself and Your Family Safe in The Heat

While we’re on our way, here are some things you can do right now to manage the heat and stay safe.

1

Close blinds and curtains

Block direct sunlight, especially on south and west-facing windows. This alone can drop indoor temperature by several degrees.

2

Stay hydrated

Drink water consistently, not just when you feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine which dehydrate you faster in the heat.

3

Use fans strategically

Point a fan at a bowl of ice or a damp towel for a makeshift cool breeze. Open windows on opposite sides of the house for cross-ventilation at night.

4

Check on elderly and young children

They’re most vulnerable to heat-related illness. Watch for confusion, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, or not sweating despite the heat.

5

Move pets to the coolest room

Pets overheat faster than humans. Provide extra water and keep them in the lowest, most-shaded area of the house.

6

Avoid cooking or using the oven

Ovens and stovetops add significant heat to your home. Eat cold meals or use a microwave until the AC is fixed.

— AC emergencies we respond to

Whatever It Is, We've Fixed It in A Heat Wave

These are the most common emergency calls we get from Toronto homeowners during the summer. We handle all of them.

Complete AC failure

AC is completely dead — no fan, no cooling, no response to the thermostat. House is heating up fast.

Running but no cold air

AC turns on and blows but the air is warm. Indoor temperature climbing despite the system running nonstop.

Major water leak

Water pouring from the indoor unit, dripping through the ceiling, or flooding the basement. Risk of water damage.

Electrical burning smell

A burning or electrical odour coming from the AC unit. Turn it off immediately — this could be a wiring issue.

Vulnerable person at risk

Elderly family member, infant, or someone with a health condition in a home with no cooling during extreme heat.

Sudden alarming sounds

Loud grinding, screeching, or banging that started suddenly. A mechanical failure that could cause more damage if it keeps running.

— Emergency AC repair questions

Answers When You Need Them Fast

Quick answers so you know what to expect.
It depends on location and current demand — during heat waves our phones are busy. We prioritize emergencies above all other calls and give you an honest arrival estimate, not a vague window. If we can’t get there fast enough, we’ll tell you upfront.
No. We never charge extra for evening, weekend, or heat wave calls. Some companies surge their prices when demand spikes — we don’t. The rate is the same whether it’s a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday night during the hottest week of the year.
Turn off your AC immediately at the thermostat and the breaker. A burning smell typically indicates an electrical issue — overheating motor, damaged wiring, or a failing capacitor. Don’t turn it back on. Call us and we’ll diagnose it safely.
Most common repairs are resolved on the first visit — we stock frequently needed parts. In rare cases where a specific part needs to be ordered, we’ll explain the situation, give you a timeline, and help you stay cool in the meantime.
Yes. Calls involving elderly residents, young children, or people with health conditions are treated as top priority. Let us know when you call and we’ll do everything we can to get a tech to you as quickly as possible. In the meantime, consider moving them to a cooler location like a shopping centre, library, or a neighbour’s home.
